Organic Bourgal Wheat - Coarse
A quick‐cooking form of whole wheat that has been cleaned, parboiled, dried and ground. Especially popular in many countries of the Middle East, Indian, Pakistani, Africa and Mediterranean Basin. High in fibre and protein with a lower glycemic index than white rice, making it a healthful substitute in numerous dishes.
Bourgal is made from wheat grains that have been steamed and cracked, then dehydrated. This Australian grown and processed coarse Bourgal is preservative-free, non-GMO & organic. With a subtle wheat flavour and aroma, cooked Bourgal has a light, fluffy consistency and slightly chewy texture and perfect for adding to baked goods, salads and savoury dishes.
Coarse bulgur can be used to make pottages, breakfast cereals, salads such as kısır, pilavs, breads, and in dessert puddings such as kheer. Bulgur porridge is similar to frumenty* , a cracked wheat porridge that was a staple of medieval cuisine
*Frumenty was a popular dish in Western European medieval cuisine. It is a porridge, a thick boiled grain dish— its name derived from the Latin word frumentum, "grain". It was usually made with cracked wheat boiled with either milk or broth and was a peasant staple
